I should probably write a whole short novel about it — but space is tight, and I must at least tell you this:
In my warehouse, among 1,000 antique fireplaces — including at least 400 in Louis XV style alone — there is not a single other piece that combines this level of ornate detail in such miniature proportions.
This fireplace is, more or less, the squaring of the circle.
Why? Because when women come shopping for a fireplace for their daughter’s bedroom, what are they looking for?
Something small and beautiful.
That’s it.
But sadly, in the 19th century, highly decorative fireplaces were reserved for grand salons and formal rooms — big spaces that needed big fireplaces. So unless you were a real-life Scrooge McDuck, you simply didn’t spend big money on sculptural masterpieces for small bedrooms or studies.
