FASCINATING “TURNESOL” (“SUNFLOWER”) FIREPLACE IN "PRETTY" STONE, LATE 19TH CENTURY PERIOD, EXCELLENT OVERALL PRESERVATION, PROVENANCE CÔTE D'AZUR, ALSO PRESENTED HERE WITH PICTURE TAKEN BEFORE ITS DISASSEMBLY.
If you do not laugh, I will write here what I really felt upon seeing this fireplace....
And generally what one feels on first contact is the right feeling, the most apt judgment....
As soon as I saw it, I thought (because of its color) that it was as bright and full-bodied as a warm sunset....
Then, (obviously because of its sunflower blossoms, scattered everywhere), I smelled the scent of grass from an imaginary freshly cut field.. In fact, the scent of sunflower stem I do not know, so I had to content myself with more simple and familiar alfalfa....
In short, my immediate impression of that fireplace was one of great Naturalness and Solarity....
Another very important thing about this mantel of an ancient fireplace: The quarrying of this stone is completed.... I don't know when exactly (no one seems to know), but certainly for at least a century, which makes this fireplace no longer reproducible and therefore particularly valuable.
