WHO EVER WAS THIS MR. MAJORELLE LOUIS ?!
He is practically unknown in Italy, at least today…
But in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, our Louis represented the ONLY STYLIST WHO MADE IN HIS OWN FACTORY THE OBJECTS THAT HE DESIGNED AND THAT MADE THE RICH LADIES OF ALL EUROPE GO CRAZY.
To better explain what the architect Majorelle represented to his affluent audience of admirers, I always make this reasoning: Today we have dozens and dozens of designers (from the A of Armani to the V of Valentino or Versace, passing through the M of Missoni, in this site https://www.mytheresa.com/it-it/designers.html you will find, of important contemporary designers, ABOUT TWO HUNDRED!!), what was I saying? Ah yes, today we have them galore, of designers (characters capable of anything, they are willing even to sign your wife's curlers in order to make you spend big bucks) while in those decades at the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, there was only our fantastic Luis Majorelle, who designed from the “embrasse” of curtains to home furniture, from vases to lamps, passing even through fireplaces, furnishing components that he loved and cared for a lot. IN SHORT, MAJORELLE, ALONE, REPLACED THIS MODERN PLETHORA, AND WITH WHAT GRACE AND WHAT CLASS!!!
The mantel I offer here is one of the slimmest models in his collection and also one of the most ornate because of the floral carvings stretched across its front.
In addition, this fireplace also brings as a dowry an equally slender cast iron insert artistic with tapisserie bottom and pediment with decorations all dedicated to the love between a man and a woman, to love not only platonic but to love in all its manifestations (he was a little naughty, the Louis, so I will examine these decorations in more detail not here and publicly, but if and when you come to see me).
IN A NICE HOUSE IN PARIS WE FOUND IT, IN NANCY IT WAS BUILT BETWEEN ABOUT 1890 AND 1910. THIS MARBLE FIRE SURROUND IS IN PERFECT CONDITION.
