Bargain antique fireplaces
After the French Revolution, the first style in furniture is precisely the Directoire, which inherits the neoclassical taste of the just-passed Louis XVI style onto which are grafted clean lines, inspired by the sobriety of customs, proper to the ongoing Social and Cultural Revolution.
The Directoire is thus a transitional style between the “Ancien Régime” and the Empire, which, with Napoleon, will again transform the taste for furnishings. In Italy the Direttorio style lasted very few years, from 1795 to 1805. That is why fireplaces found in this style are very rare indeed.
What's more, this fireplace has on its side the fact that it was carved in one of the most valuable yellow marbles in the world and, by the way, can no longer be found since the vein has been exhausted for at least a century, the mythical Giallo Fiorito.
Those, therefore, who seek in their fireplace mantels the refinement of lines, the excellent quality of materials and even the rarity of the piece (but this one is just uncontactable, eh..) can only rejoice before this artistic and historical sculpture, especially since the price of this piece is paltry and not even comparable to the cost of a modern and Chinese "styled fireplace."
