POMPADOUR GALBÉ MARBLE MANTEL, IN SMALL MEASURE, VERY PLEASANT AND “NICE.”
Take note: The name of an object, whatever it is, when expressed in French has another value, it seems a more “luxurious,” more “chic", (and so on ad so forth)...
The marble of this fireplace is worldwide known with the name, precisely, of “Brèche Orange,” obviously because of that “orangey” or, if you prefer, “lobster-toned” color characteristic much in demand by buyers in general and women in particular.
The French, who are MUCH smarter than us when it comes to trade, immediately understood the value of this very Italic marble, and since we snubbed it, they bought it for two liras until the quarrying was completed, the quarry exhausted, etc.
And, of course, they resold it all over the World with their “trademark,” THAT IS, WITH THE FRENCH NAME OF “BRECHE ORANGE” ( a name with the irresistible Parisian scent).
For at least a century there has been no more possibility of having slabs of this marble even though the quarry still exists and is located in the Italian Asiago Plateau, Prealpi Vicentine and the marble that comes out of it is called, precisely “Red Asiago”.
The fact is that the marble that is quarried today has color that “pulls” more to the red and darker.... Not that it is not pleasant but ... it is something else, it is no longer the dear old ... “Brèche Orange.”
Let's say Flavio Naomo falls in love with it (of the Breche Orange ...) and decides (if only to arouse the envy of his friend Berlusca) to build his personal mausoleum with that fantastic marble, well, he couldn't do it, not a single slab of this marble exists in the world anymore ...
Here, you could, by buying this specimen (more unique than rare), make a row and make both Flavius and Silvio envious..
Nonsense aside, this mantel is “IN PERFECT CONDITION OF CONSERVATION” (it looks like a car from my friend Baraghin, one of the world's leading vintage car collectors), it doesn't cost as much as a fireplace in such precious marble should cost, and it even has a nice pair of cast bronze mouths on the sides
THIS FIREPLACE WAS FOUND BY US ON THE CÔTE D'AZUR, A REGION IN WHICH, I WAS JUST TALKING ABOUT IT YESTERDAY WITH MY SON ENRICO, THE MARBLES ARE FOUND WITH THE MOST BEAUTIFUL COLORS, WHETHER IT IS THE SUN AND THE SEA OF THOSE PLACES THAT RECOMMEND SUCH HAPPY CHROMATIC VIVACITY TO ITS INHABITANTS?!
LATE 1800S/EARLY 1900S PERIOD.
