It will have been at least a five-year period since I last found an Empire fireplace with parts in Yellow Siena marble, and I honestly believed that such a major happening would never occur to me again… Instead, never say never, I get called to Paris to combine a batch of fireplaces to be dismantled in a famous hotel on the Rue de Boetie...
So many beautiful “things,” really so many, but...my heart began to pound at the sight of these two colors.... .......Yellow Siena...I feel like a citizen of the world, but...I couldn't help but remain Italian at the sight of it... As you know, this marble of fantastic color, because of its poor quarrying and very high cost, was and is even more sparingly used today and is therefore to be considered “precious...” .
........But another surprise awaits me in this fireplace: That green, which at first glance and to the untrained eye may appear Alpine Green, that green I take a good look at and my heart begins, if possible, to beat even faster... Yes, I am sure of it, it is Vert de Mer...
Napoleon, in order to have it and make plinths of it for the watches he used to give to rulers around the world, had monuments demolished in Egypt, the land of his provenance... It is, this Vert de Mer, the princely marble of the Empire style. We are thus faced with two marble excellences, Giallo Siena and Vert de Mer.
Do not marvel at the cost, on reflection more than fair, of this precious fireplace mantel, we have made a good purchase and we turn over to you, as always, an excellent price, after all, it is this commercial policy that has allowed us, even after more than forty years of activity, to be, by far, the first in Italy to make this exciting trade.
SECOND EMPIRE PERIOD, PERFECT PRESERVATION AND PATINA.
