ART DECO PERIOD ENAMELLED CAST-IRON “SALAMANDER” STOVE (CIRCA 1930).
Originally designed to be inserted inside fireplace mantels — hence its compact dimensions — this little stove was, in essence, the ancestor of what we would today call a modern fireplace insert.
Though, truth be told, how much more charming these early examples were compared to today’s oversized contemporary fireboxes: enormous metal machines with lifting glass panels and remote controls, looking more like industrial boilers than fireplaces.
This Salamander stove, by contrast, remains delightfully compact, elegant and full of character.
It is offered in excellent condition — we ourselves used it for more than ten years — and it will be delivered fully restored.
